Community housing for Northwestern OntarioPart of the Rainy Lake group

About RLCH

Housing with a community purpose.

Rainy Lake Community Housing Cooperative is a developing housing initiative focused on durable homes, long-term stability, and resident participation in Northwestern Ontario.

The purpose

Make the housing model work for the people who live in it.

RLCH is being developed to explore cooperative housing opportunities that can respond to local needs. The aim is to combine sound project planning with a governance structure in which members can participate.

That requires careful work on land, capital, design, operating costs, maintenance, and the rules that will govern a specific community. No project or membership opportunity is implied until its details are published.

Guiding principles

What we are building toward.

01

Stable housing

Homes and operating plans designed to serve residents over time.

02

Clear governance

Project-specific bylaws, membership rules, and responsibilities communicated plainly.

03

Financial discipline

Housing plans grounded in build costs, financing, reserves, and ongoing maintenance.

The broader group

Connected capabilities, distinct roles.

RLCH is part of the Rainy Lake group’s community housing work. Rainy Lake Developments leads broader development planning, Mitchell Construction brings construction capability, and Rainy Lake Windows & Doors can support window and door supply.

Any project agreements, governance arrangements, and procurement decisions will be established for the particular project. The cooperative’s member rights and obligations will be set out in its governing documents.
